Home remedies for hair breakage

You know the horrific feeling of running a comb through your hair to find clumps of hair coming off with the comb. Hair breakage is a normal part of the growth cycle, but in excess, it can be a source of anxiety.

Some factors that cause hair breakage include incorrect manipulation of the hair, exposure to extreme weather, chemical relaxers and even dehydration and poor nutrition.

So how can you combat hair breakage at home?

• Pay attention to your nutrition, incorporating lots of water, vitamins, and minerals into the diet.

• Condition your hair regularly. Conditioning once a week moisturises the hair shaft, and a protein deep conditioning treatment twice a month boosts strength.

• Use hair masks (like an avocado and honey mask with coconut oil or banana and Aloe Vera with castor oil) to encourage growth.

• Rinsing the hair with infused green or black tea is proven to prevent breakage.

• Use strengthening natural oils like argan oil, coconut oil, and castor oil to massage the scalp daily.

• Add Aloe Vera to your shea butter hair cream for moisture.

• Cover the hair with a satin scarf or cap before sleeping.
