How to take care of your liver

We hardly ever talk about livers. We are usually more concerned with our heart but the liver is just as important. So, to avoid liver failure, here is a list of foods you may eat and those you should avoid.

1. Fatty food

This type of food such a French fry, suya, etc. have always been bad news. So keep avoiding them or eat them minimally in that they don’t keep depositing fats in your liver.

2. Water

Well, this is one food you can never go wrong with it. Water has been found to help in keeping excess weight at bay which is exactly what your liver needs.

3. Oatmeal

This is one of the best foods you could bless your digestive tract with. Rich in fibre, it can keep your liver healthy and strong but add nutty toppings and you have made the best choice ever.

4. Coffee

While I am not generally a fan of coffee, research has shown that it can lower the risk of liver cancer. If you already love having coffee daily, then this should be good news to you.

5. Green tea

Now, this I am more predisposed to! Filled with catechins, a form of antioxidant, you can equally sip on this hot drink to keep your liver happy.

6. Salt

No, you don’t need more of this; you need less. Studies show that too much sodium cause liver scarring, which can lead to further complications. So, stay away from salty foods.

7. Alcohol

You may like the bottle but that just might end you on a hospital bed. If you must drink, keep it occasional.

8. Herbs and spices

You should try cooking with cinnamon, nutmeg, rosemary, turmeric, curry, etc. They taste heavenly and are loaded with nutrients for your liver.

Generally, stay away from fatty, salty and sugary foods.
